 first came the drought...
when the first signs of leaf-fall settled in, nobody imagined that a drought would settle over them; yet it did, giving the clan cats a deadly limbo between life or death. riverclan's rivers dried up, and the only sources of water would be for one to dig, dig, dig until claws were broken, and soon nobody was strong enough to dig that far, so they simply sat around and waited. the medicine cat thought this was a sign, and so they began to approach one another more peacefully, hoping to appease their ancestors. however, the drought continued, and cats began to die because of their thirst.
and now, the life...
how was poor shadestar of shadowclan supposed to know through his pain that the puddle of 'water' carried a deadly disease within it - rabies? three warriors lapped up that puddle desperately, hoping for something to sooth their tongues. in five days, the two warriors were dead, after racing about camp threatening the others with bared teeth and narrowed eyes. burnstar, however, developed an immunity due to the fact he had nine lives, nine whole deaths, which would take a few moons before death. however, as the disease circulated through his system, his body grew with an immunity. at the next gathering, the delerious leader attacked, biting many other warriors, who also carried the disease, yet the immunity had grown through them, too, and soon, war circulated about the clans.
the medicine cats proclaimed this disease the life, because of the way it took a warrior and made them hyperactive, taking over their mind, yet still resuming the life-like qualities of any regular warrior. these cats hid within the clans, deceit within their minds - they struck the others down only when it was least expected, like a disease for trickery.
